"What I find totally incredible is that for all that spending we never really strengthened our weakest position, central defensive midfield"...

Perhaps the agents we deal with didn't have that sort of player on their books, so we just had to take what was available.

It's what happens when looking after your mates takes priority over looking after your business.

Well you play Fredericks and Masukua at full back in a flat back four, neither can defend.
You play wide men who won't track back and support the fullbacks.
You play without a proper defensive midfielder and absolutely no pace or power in central midfield.
You stick your best option as a no 10 on the wing.
You somehow managed to piss off your charismatic maverick goalscorer to the extent that he's lost interest already.
That's how you waste 100 million

Spent £100m or whatever it was and still we have Snodgrass starting and Sánchez as our Dm for fucks sake !

Thought Fabianski and Diop were good to be fair, but Anderson, Wilshere, Fredericks were all utter shit.

Absolutely WP.

Put it another way. How can you bring in that many new players and not one be an upgrade on the player being replaced?

Re: How can you spend £100 million on a squad and show no improvement whatsoever?
What I find most worrying is that Pellers brought in this whole team of shiny new coaching staff to great fanfare and yesterday our players looked uninterested, unable to run, unable to string 3 passes together and constantly dispossessed by a better, hungier team all over the park.

What the fuck have they been coaching them?

Re: How can you spend £100 million on a squad and show no improvement whatsoever?
To be honest it's no big surprise

Without wishing to be a smartarse, I did say before the start of the season that I was concerned that we'd brought in too many new players too quickly

It will take time for the side to gel & hopefully it will happen before we get relegated

We should have been bringing in a couple of really quality signings each window for the past few years rather than a whole lot in one splurge

This situation has happened at other clubs in the past, Everton last season is a good example

Man City bought a lot a quality players when they had their new found wealth, however, they already had a relatively strong & stable side to start with

What I find totally incredible is that for all that spending we never really strengthened our weakest position, central defensive midfield
That has been a problem for years, & it still is!

After seeing Watford with 4 in a row the complete opposite of us, does make you wonder if we are cursed.

Re: How can you spend £100 million on a squad and show no improvement whatsoever?
The team needed some big changes two seasons ago and it did not happen and last season the Hugil debarcle was the time to bring some decent players in which were very much needed, they did not.

Pinching pennies for two seasons and then spending actually slightly over average now is not going to guarantee anything although I agree that it is fucking disgraceful what we are seeing from both the players and the new manager.

Poor management

The main priorities should have been centre midfield and full backs.

Still haven´t addressed that.

Fredericks has been shocking, championship player at best.

The more you spend, the more you change the squad, the longer it takes for the team to gel. FACT.

They’re playing like a bunch of strangers because they mostly are. Things like team spirit take time to build.

The FACT is that we need to see more passion and aggression in the meantime. I’d be happy to concentrate on grinding out wins and draws before we try the tippy tappy stuff.

I don't think we spent 100m, it could amount to 100m if they full fill the add on's.
Remember this isn't extra money Sullivan make available it's the clubs money he had pugged away.
30m profit last season, 20m last Jan, that's 50m then the usual 25m we get every summer, that takes us to the 75m what was quoted as our budget .

It's all Razzel Dazzel

Re: How can you spend £100 million on a squad and show no improvement whatsoever?
its entirely possible when you have a chairman treating the club like his own fantasy flootball team.

You can’t fault them for getting their walllet out, they just haven’t thought it through really. The need to appoint MP always had be scratching my head a bit (yes reallly) and while some of the players did have me excited it IS a lot of new players to bed into a functioning team and we still haven’t properly addressed those key areas that were glaring gaps.

Our entire season and survival in this division rests on us getting 6 points in our next 4 games. If we fail to it’s too much and we are doomed, I make it as simple as that.

Have I missed something
We spent too much of the £100 mill on attacking midfielders and play makers
Who the fuck are they then coz I sure ain’t seen no playmaking or attacking midfield play

Re: How can you spend £100 million on a squad and show no improvement whatsoever?
Lanzini is a forty million pound player, Jao Mario 25 and Kayoute 10.

The squad isn’t much better or more expensive than at the end of last season in reality.

Re: How can you spend £100 million on a squad and show no improvement whatsoever?
Because we spent too much of the £100m on attacking midfielders and playmakers. Bit like Everton.

We’ve barely spent anything on CMs and CDMs for a decade. Compare our outlay in these areas to, say, Watford and Fulham.

If you don't prioritise spending the money first and foremost on the positions in the team that have a glaring weakness.

Wolves spent 70 mil this season and spent 50m last year. 100m don't go far especially after the last 2 season transfer fuck ups.

I was with the Wimbledon fans on Tuesday and they were singing "One hundred million pounds and you bought a load of shit" (to the tune of yellow submarine.

I don't agree with that in the slightest but it's difficult to put up a cohesive argument against that statement at the moment!
